Don’t Take my Fun Away
Often when I speak with people who are tasked with meeting planning for their companies, they say “If I use your services you will take away all my fun.” What fun are you talking about? The hours spent on the phone to hotels, DMCs and transportation companies, to mention a few. And let’s not forget the hours spent in meetings to discuss content, activities, registration and F&B. How about the fun of reviewing all those contracts, which require multiple visits to legal for clarification of a word. Did I mention the care and feeding of room counts to insure that the attrition agreement is met so that you don’t need to explain to upper management why they are paying penalty fees to the hotel for rooms they promised would be used? The reality is that by using our services to do the grunt work, the person responsible for the meeting (in addition to all their other duties) can enjoy the fun part of the job:
My response to the people who say that we want to take all their fun away is, “We want to manage the details so well that you can have fun and be recognized for being a smart manager.” |
